VisualLounge points to a great screencast from the Flickr folks about the new Flickr page design.
Some thoughts:
- Screencasts like this make-up an excellent training/teaching tool - that we don't need to produce (only index and make available/searchable by our community).
- Good example of best practices in screencasting - including length and how much some music helps.
Best practices - I agree that brevity and pacing are a virtue; but I personally find the music less than helpful - it doesn't help me learn at all, it distracts and annoys! Learners are different! Given that, I think it's important to not make choices for them that they can't undo (such as adding an obligatory music track) - which is a general principle of good design.
