Great process for the community to vote on these. The top five are:
- Creating learning environments that promote active learning, critical thinking, collaborative learning, and knowledge creation.
- Developing 21st-century literacies among students and faculty (information, digital, and visual).
- Reaching and engaging today's learner.
- Encouraging faculty adoption and innovation in teaching and learning with IT.
- Advancing innovation in teaching and learning (with technology) in an era of budget cuts.
I think these are great. These could be turned into 5 questions we could ask ourselves as we decide on where to put our energies and resources, what projects to invest in, and which strategic directions we want to go in.
Note that none of these priorities have anything to do with technology per se, they are all about innovation, social change, and learning. Academic computing units need to put priorities such as these in our strategic plans, meaning that services that are not learning centric should be sourced when possible.
Would be an interesting exercise to map our current projects and ongoing services (and resources) against this list.
For those headed to ELI, there will be discussion groups on the challenges, Wed at 4:30. One group per challenge. Yours truly will be facilitating the discussion for #1, learning environments. I'll be working with Shannon Ritter of Penn State to facilitate the session.
