Ars Technica has a post today about some kind of announcement that Amazon will make on Wednesday. According to Ars, it's likely that Amazon will announce some kind of large-format version of the Kindle.
What I did not appreciate before is that, apparently, the publishers are unhappy with the Kindle arrangement: not enough revnue/profit. According to the Wall Street Journal
Amazon controls the formatting and subscription prices, eliminates the
ability to run ads, etc., all of which means that the publishers have
little control and are making little money on the partnership.
So the publishers are looking into alternatives, like iPhone OS 3.
OK gang: what kind of Kindle will it be? One of those roll-up-able plastic ones? What a kick: carry your e-reader in a tube!
AppleInsider also has a post with additional info. One point they make: Amazon may be targeting the education market with this new device, for textbook delivery. About time! http://tinyurl.com/deeebd

Article in the Times today how they are hoping large screen e-readers may "save" the News.

I find reading the free news on my iTouch to be pretty good - particularly the NYTimes. They may have to stop making this free - and then I'd consider getting a large format e-readers and subscribing through that.
